This came after he was widely reported for using a highly offensive word to describe the LGBT community. The Pope rarely issues a public apology. “The Pope (Francis) never intended to insult or express himself in anti-LGBTQ terms, and he apologizes to those who felt offended by the use of a term conveyed by others,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in an emailed statement. Italian media reported yesterday, Monday, that the Pope of the Vatican used an Italian term referring to “transsexuals” when telling Italian bishops that he remained opposed to accepting priests from the LGBT community. The Italian political rumors site Dagospia was the first to report on the incident, and stated that this happened on May 20, when Pope Francis met with Italian bishops in a secret meeting. Bruni said the Pope was "aware" of the reports.
